About Avianca Ecuador
The airline Avianca Ecuador S.A., originally AeroGal, is based in Quito, Ecuador. In Ecuador, between the mainland and the Galápagos Islands, and between Ecuador and Colombia, it runs passenger and freight flights on Avianca’s behalf. It belongs to the Avianca Group of Latin American airlines, which consists of seven airlines with national brands (such as Avianca Costa Rica, Avianca El Salvador, etc.). The Ecuadorian businessman Carlos Serrano Lusetti launched AeroGal in November 1985 to provide air transportation for people and freight throughout Continental Ecuador and the Galapagos Archipelago. With two 12-passenger Dornier Do 28 aircraft, it started operations in 1986. Synergy Group acquired 80% of AeroGal in October 2009, at which point the two companies announced a merger.
