About Barrier Air (GBA)
Jim Bergman founded Great Barrier Airlines in 1983, which later became Barrier Air, a New Zealand-based airline. Additional offices are housed in the terminal buildings at Great Barrier Aerodrome, Kaitaia Airport, and North Shore Aerodrome. The head office is situated in the Domestic Terminal at Auckland Airport in Mangere. One Cessna 172, one Cessna 206, and a vintage three-engine de Havilland Australia DHA-3 Drover made up the airline’s inaugural fleet. On December 2, 1983,[3] Bergman made the first scheduled flight to Great Barrier Island from Auckland’s Ardmore Airport, three nautical miles southeast of Manurewa. At first, the firm ran three daily flights from Ardmore to Auckland International before continuing to Great Barrier Aerodrome near Claris. The airline launched operations to in July 1984.
