About Bearskin Airlines
Located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, Bearskin Lake Air Service LP, doing business as Bearskin Airlines, is a regional airline. It runs services in northern Ontario and Manitoba as a branch of Perimeter Aviation. With a hub at Greater Sudbury Airport (YSB), Thunder Bay International Airport (YQT) serves as its primary base. Otto John Hegland, a bush pilot, founded the airline in 1963. Its base was at Big Trout Lake, the home of the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation, and it began operations there in July of that same year. The airline, however, was called after Bearskin Lake, the location of the Bearskin Lake First Nation and the location of Hegland’s general store. In the beginning, it exclusively offered charter flights via bush planes to the isolated First Nations reserves in northern Ontario
