The Timișoara-based Carpatair S.A. is a privately owned charter and former regional airline in Romania. Carpatair was founded in 1999 and debuted its services in Cluj-Napoca in February of that same year. When Swiss and Swedish investors acquired a 49% stake in the business in December 1999, the company’s current name was chosen. Swiss and Swedish investors possess 49% of the airline, which is owned by stockholders from Romania (51%). Since joining IATA in 2006, the airline has successfully completed five IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) registrations. 450 people worked for Carpatair as of March 2007. Nicolae Petrov is the current president and CEO of Carpatair. Carpatair continued to provide charter & ACMI solutions while it transitioned from being insolvent to being “in reorganization”. The carrier had made an insolvency filing.
