The headquarters of the Venezuelan airline Lnea Aérea Conviasa, officially known as Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeronáuticas y Servicios Aéreos, are located on the grounds of Simón Bolvar International Airport in Maiqueta, a town close to Caracas. It serves domestic as well as Caribbean and South American destinations, and it is Venezuela’s flag carrier and biggest airline. Conviasa is renowned for choosing its routes based more on politics than money. After 37 years of existence, Venezuela’s former national airline, Viasa, suspended operations in January 1997 as a result of persistent financial issues.
